How the dates are worked out

Deworming

From 2 weeks old, repeated at 4 weeks, then monthly until 6 months old, because puppies and kittens often get worms from their mother. After that, every 2 to 3 months, depending on the breed and how your pet lives. The dates use 3; ask your vet if yours needs 2.

Flea and tick

Dogs start at about 4 months old and cats from about 2 months, then every month, or as long as the product lasts. Nigeria's warm weather means ticks are around in every season, so protection shouldn't stop in the dry season.

Signs of tick fever

Tick fever (babesiosis and ehrlichiosis) is spread by ticks and is a common, serious illness in Nigerian dogs. Watch for tiredness, fever, loss of appetite, pale gums and dark or red urine. It needs a vet the same day: the earlier it is treated, the better a dog's chances.

Questions people ask

On the schedule Skeepy's vets work to, deworming starts at 2 weeks old and is repeated at 4 weeks. After that it is monthly until 6 months old, then every 2 to 3 months. Puppies and kittens often pick up worms from their mother, which is why it starts so early.
