Senior Pet Care Guide
Pets are “senior” from around 7 years (sooner for large dogs). Small changes to their routine keep them comfortable and catch problems early.
What Changes With Age
- Slower metabolism: weight gain or loss
- Stiffer joints and less energy
- Cloudy eyes, reduced hearing
- Dental disease becomes more common
- More frequent drinking or toilet trips
Your Senior Care Routine
- Switch to twice-yearly vet check-ups.
- Move to a senior-appropriate diet and watch portions.
- Keep gentle, regular exercise; avoid sudden intense activity.
- Make the home easy: soft bedding, ramps, non-slip mats.
- Brush teeth and keep up parasite prevention.
Call the Vet If You Notice
- Sudden weight change or appetite loss
- Increased thirst or urination
- Trouble standing, climbing or new limping
- Lumps, bad breath, or confusion
