7-Day Puppy House-Training Plan
House-training is about routine and reward, not punishment. Follow this week and your puppy will learn fast.
The Golden Rules
- Take your puppy out after every sleep, meal, play session and every 1–2 hours.
- Reward the instant they finish in the right spot.
- Never scold accidents; just clean with an enzyme cleaner so the scent doesn’t linger.
- Supervise or crate when you can’t watch closely.
Day-by-Day
- Days 1–2: Build the routineSet fixed meal times and a toilet spot. Take the puppy there on a lead and use a cue word like “go potty”.
- Days 3–4: Reward & repeatPraise and treat every success within two seconds. Start spacing trips slightly further apart.
- Days 5–6: Watch the signalsLearn the pre-toilet signs (sniffing, circling) and respond fast. Begin a “wait at the door” habit.
- Day 7: Stretch the gapsLengthen time between trips as accidents drop. Keep the routine consistent even when it’s going well.
